Certificate The Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic program at Carl Sandburg College is designed to prepare the graduate to administer care to the sick and injured in emergency situations. Graduates are employed primarily by ambulance companies and/or fire departments. The program progresses from Emergency Medical Technician/Basic (EMT-B) to Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate (EMT-I) to Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic I and II (EMT-P). The student may leave at any level in the program to become licensed at that level and return at a later date to complete the program. Upon successful completion of each level of the program, the graduate will be eligible to take the licensure examination of the Illinois Department of Public Health Department of Emergency Medical Services. If the graduate successfully completes the exam (internship if required), he/she will be eligible to be licensed as an EMT-B, EMT-I, or EMT-P. After completing all of the courses in the program, the student will receive a certificate of completion from Carl Sandburg College. Clinical experiences for the program will be gained with community agencies and ambulance services in the Galesburg area. Following completion of the EMT-P coursework, the student is required to complete a 480-hour internship which will be arranged through the EMS Coordinator. This internship must be completed within one year after completion of the coursework and prior to sitting for the licensure exam. For Program Requirements refer online to the CSC Catalog that was in effect when you began the program.
