The purpose of the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Carl Sandburg College is to prepare professional nurses to function at their level of preparation in an ever-changing health care environment in a variety of health care settings. The program includes seven nursing courses and specified science and general education courses.

The graduate is eligible to apply to write the National Council Licensing Examination. Upon the successful completion of this exam, the graduate is eligible to apply for Registered Nurse licensure in Illinois. The curriculum prepares the graduates to provide nursing care to individuals with health problems at each stage of development. The student is prepared to function within the nursing roles of manager of care, provider of care, and member within the discipline of nursing in a variety of acute care and community-based agencies. Completion of the program provides the knowledge base for education and career mobility in nursing.

Clinical experience for the nursing courses is provided by Galesburg Cottage Hospital, OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, and Community Medical Center in Monmouth. Extended care facilities and many other community-based health care agencies in the area are also utilized.
