Certificate Link here to view and print the program brochure. This course meets the Department of Public Health requirement for training to work in a long term care facility. Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the student must take a state required competency test to become certified and work as a nursing assistant. (If after completion of the nurse aide course and competency test there has been a continuous period of 24 consecutive months during none of which the individual provided nursing care for monetary compensation, the individual must complete the nurse aide course and competency test again.) The Health Care Worker Background Check Act became effective January 1, 1996. The Act requires nurse aide students to have a criminal background check by the tenth day of class. This background check is done by the State Police Department. The nurse aide student must have a clear background check and pass the competency test before his/her name can be added to the nurse aide registry and work as a nurse aide. For Program Requirements refer online to the CSC Catalog that was in effect when you began the program.
