Applying For Aid

FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS
  1. Apply for admission to Carl Sandburg College.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  This application is completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will sign your application using a Personal Identification Number (PIN).   Include CSC's college code:  007265 so we may receive your information.

  3. You will receive the Student Aid Report (SAR) within four weeks after filing the FAFSA. Review these forms and notify the Financial Aid Office of any errors immediately.
  4. Respond quickly to any request(s) for additional information from our Financial Aid Office.
  5. You will receive a "Financial Aid Award Notification" from CSC indicating the amount and types of aid for which you are eligible. If you are interested in a loan, you must complete additional steps online.
It is the students responsibility to have financial aid in place or pay his/her tuition and fees by the tuition deadline. It normally takes about four weeks to process your federal student aid application and seven to ten business days once documents are submitted to CSC. Loans take an additional two weeks after the award notification is complete and the loan request is submitted.

YOU MUST APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID ANNUALLY.

VERIFICATION
One-third of all financial aid applications are selected for a process called "Verification." Verification is the process of checking the accuracy of information provided to receive federal aid. Your application may be selected for verification by our Financial Aid Office or by the U.S. Department of Education. Students whose aid applications are being verified will not receive financial aid funds, including funds through the Federal Direct Stafford Loan Program until the verification process is complete. The process may be lengthy and some students may be determined ineligible for aid.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Some families find special circumstances impact their ability to pay college expenses that are not reflected on the aid application. If you experience a loss of job or benefits, a death or divorce, you may qualify for a recalculation of your eligibility based on special conditions. Special Conditions applications may be submitted after June 1, and only after the student has been awarded or denied federal student aid on the original application. Special Conditions may increase your eligibility for federal aid programs and, in some situations, the Illinois MAP Grant. Please go to the Financial Aid Forms page or contact the Financial Aid Office for a Special Conditions application.
