"Today was a big day for our club.  We took one more big step closer to a conference championship.  We are now 13-3 in the conference and still in first place by a couple of games with only 4 to go for us.  So we hold our fate in our own hands.  That is a good place to be, but we still have to go out and play very good baseball the rest of the way out.  We just have to take one game at a time.  The best part about it is we have not been playing anywhere close to our best baseball the last couple of weeks, but we are still winning on a consistant basis.  Before the postseason starts we will be on top of our game and ready to go.  Good teams find ways to win even if they are not playing well.  That is exactly what we are doing right now.  Everybody on the team is contributing right now, that is great to see.  The guys are hungry right now, we want it really bad and it shows."

"Today was a day for pitching.  Both teams had two pitchers each that threw the ball really well today.  Really the only reason either team scored today was because of walks and poor defense.  There was absolutely no hitting today.  We mustered only 7 hits in two ball games.  That is just not going to get it done, but our pitching gave us a chance to win 2 ballgames.  We have to do a better job of scratching and clawing to find a way to get on base when we are not hitting well.  I was not happy with our at bats today.  Our guys were so hot for so long at the plate it is weird to see us not hitting at all.  The good thing about it is that we are still winning games, and giving ourselves chances to win games every time out.  That is a sign of a good team, which we are.  The bats will come back around, I am not worried about that."

"Our bats finally got quiet in the first game.  That is the game of baseball though, on any given day a pitcher can dominate a ballgame.  That is what happened to us in game one.  Pete Oelman threw a great game, it is too bad that we could not get him any run support.  We did what good teams do in game two.  We did not let the first game get our confindence down and came out and played almost flawless.  Jake Genz was outstanding on the mound.  The offense got back on track and put up 10 runs in 5 innings.  This showed what this ball club is made of.  I am proud of the guys and we are looking forward to tommorrow."  T.J. Lindburg

"We have been playing pretty good baseball lately.  Our offense continues to carry us with putting up runs at an unbelievable rate.  With solid pitching efforts as well we are a tough team to beat right now.  Our confidence is very high right now and it will be important to keep it up throughout the remainder of the season.  Right now everybody on the team is chipping in when needed.  The guys just keep finding ways to win ball games, and putting teams away late in ball games."

"This was a big day for our team.  Kishwaukee was seen as a front runner to win the conference this season, and we went to their place and handed them two losses.  They actually threw some good pitchers at us, but they could not contain our bats.  25 runs and 25 hits in two ball games against good pitching is amazing.  I haven't seen a team hit the ball that hard for a long time.  Even our outs were rockets right at guys.  When our offense is clicking like that, there are not many teams who will be able to keep up with us.  We have been talking about approaches at the plate all year long, and we have been taking great approaches at the plate.  We have been disciplined at the plate, getting into good hitters counts and running pitch counts up.  Our guys are finally realizing when opposing pitchers pitch counts get high, they start to come up in the zone and hang a lot of offspead pitches.  That makes hitting so much easier.  These wins put us in a position to make a run at the conference championship if we keep playing the way we have been.  Sandburg has not won a conference championship since 1989, and our guys are hungry to get it.  If we can get solid pitching, and sure up our defense a little bit, we will have a great shot to win conference and make a long post-season run.  I just can't say enough about the effort that I have been getting out of the ball club."

"We played pretty good baseball throughout the day.  In game one we let some chances get away from us, and we just did not execute in the clutch.  The little things hurt us in the first ballgame.  We did give ourselves a chance to win the game though, which is a positive.  I think the outcome of the first game got to the guys somewhat, because we came out and did everything right in game 2.  This was without a doubt the best ball we have played all year.  Dupage is a very good ball club, and we just completely took them out of the game.  We are capable of playing like that, and hopefully the guys remember what that feels like.  When we play like that, I will take our chances against anybody that we will face.  We had two freshman starters today that stepped up and threw the ball as well as I have seen them yet.  I have to tip my cap to both Jake Genz in game 2 and Shawn Johnston in game 1.  Now we just have to carry that momentum into our next games Tuesday at Sauk Valley.  Also, I want to mention that Ryan Kohl now has 5 home runs early on this season"

"We played really good baseball in the first game.  Drew Harlan threw his second complete game in a row.  He was great for us today.  We also got a lot of big hits in the first game.  It is tough to get the middle of our order out right now, that makes it tough on opposing pitchers.  The second game we just played bad baseball and the score showed that.  We let the game get out of hand early, and didn't even give ourselves a chance.  We are 3-1 in the conference to start which is a major positive.  We have still won 5 out of 6 games, so I expect us to put game 2 behind us and go back to work"

"We played great baseball all day long.  We have some confidence right now after winning 4 games in a row.  I just hope that it carries over to this week.  Our bats finally busted out together in game 2.  I had been waiting for that to happen.  I could see it coming, it was just a matter of time.  We got solid pitching efforts from both starters today, and we played good defense behind them.  Overall this was a great day of baseball, and we are looking to keep building off of this"

"It is nice to open up the conference schedule with two wins today.  We were needing a little pick me up, and we got just that.  Our pitchers attacked their hitters all day and had a lot of success.  Drew Harlan threw a heck of a ballgame in game 1 to set the tone for us, then Brandon Oelman had another solid start for us in game 2.  We actually hit the ball well all day long.  I believe we could have put up a lot of runs today, but a lot of balls were just hit right at the opposition.  I had complete confidence in our ball club for the entire day.  The second game's score was closer than it should have been, but we'll take the win and the sweep.  Also, Grant Grimmett had a huge day for us at the plate, driving in 7 runs in two ballgames while going 5-6.  I hope these wins will give us the confidence to go on a role"  TJ  Lindburg

"We let game one slip away from us going into the top of the seventh.  We had an 8-5 lead going into the inning and they put up an 8 spot.  We just could not get 3 outs before the game became out of reach for us.  The one good thing that I saw is that our bats came around.  Game two was also a wild ballgame.  We were down 11-9 heading into the bottom of the sixth and we put up 7 runs in that inning.  I was proud of the way we battled back in game two.  Our guys were just not going lose that ballgame and we did what we had to do to get the win.  Hopefully our bats stay hot and we can get better pitching and defense"  T.J. "We came out and got a 4-0 lead after the first inning, then allowed them to answer with 4 in the second inning.  Our bats went quiet until the 6th inning and that was the difference in the ballgame.  We allowed the momentum to shift and we just never got it back.  Overall we played well once again, we just could not finish a ballgame.  Against a good ballclub like Kankakee you just can't allow them back into a game, but once again we played hard and I saw a lot of good things".  Head Coach T.J. Lindburg

"First of all it is great for us to get our first win of the early season against a good ballclub.  Brandon Oelman pitched a great game for us.  I can't say enough about his effort on the mound today.  He made three mistakes all day and they turned into home runs.  He did not walk a single batter all day and we played solid defense behind him.  I can live with giving up solo home runs, that shows me that a pitcher is attacking the strike zone and coming right after hitters.  Good things happen when you are around the  zone the whole day.  Our guys flat out found  a way to get it done today and I'm pround of them for that.  We had been playing good baseball we just were not putting it all together and we finally did in game 2.  Our bats still have not come around yet.  When they do we will be a very scary ballclub because we have a group of guys with tremendous potential at the plate.  The hitting will come with more time and at-bats for our hitters, but I am very pleased with our plate discipline right now.  I can tell that the guys are starting to see the ball better now.  The win can allow us to relax a little and keep building".

The Carl Sandburg College Men's baseball team opened up last Thursday against Kirkwood Community College.  Carl Sandburg lost the first game by a score of 4-2, and also lost game two by a score of 8-3.  Drew Harlan got the loss in game 1 despite going 5 2/3 innings and allowing one earned run.  Brandon Oelman picked up the loss in game two.
"The games did not turn out the way we wanted them to, but it was nice to finally get outside and play a couple of games.  Kirkwood is a very nice ball club and we competed with them in every aspect of the game.  We had numerous chances at the plate to come up with a big hit to give us the lead, but we just did not get it done.  It was tough for our hitters because of the fact that this was the first time they had seen live pitching outdoors.  I saw a lot of things that I was pleased with, and that we can build off of".  Head Coach T.J. Lindburg.
The team also traveled to Joliet for three games over the weekend.  Sandburg dropped all three games by the scores of 8-2, 7-3, and 6-5.  Sam Hornick took the loss in game 1, Matt Young in game 2, and Shane Gaumer in game 3.
"Once again we played pretty good baseball and gave ourselves chances to win ball games, but we let them get away from us in the late innings.  We got decent pitching and solid defense and our bats started to come around a little bit.  We hit a lot of baseballs hard this weekend, but they just didn't fall.  That is the game of baseball sometimes, but overall I am pleased with the way we played.  We have played much better than our record so far.  I give a lot of credit to both Kirkwood and Joliet, they are both very good ballclubs.  We just need time to get going because we have a lot of potential this season to be a very good ballclub.  The guys realize that it is early and these teams we have played already had games under their belt.  Overall I am excited about the rest of the season".
