The 2007 cross country season will start with optimism for both the men's and women's teams.  Despite losing valuable athletes through graduation, there are three runners returning for each team and the recruiting year brings depth to the teams.

The Chargers' women will return Kelsey Cameron, Bobbi Cutcher, and Kari Findley, and the strength they bring with the experience of their first year.  Off-season was very good for the program when Megan Ollman and Kenni Fitzpatrick from GHS enrolled at Sandburg as well as Jessica Hanson from Kewanee High School.  All three have been solid cross country performers at their schools.  Also signing to help the women's team was track athlete Alex Diehl from West Central in Biggsville.

Shane Curry leads the returning men's credits from the 2006 season with his experience at the NJCAA nationals in El Paso, Texas last November.  Matt Spath and Jeremy Randolph return as key scorers from last year.  Both are eager for this season.

GHS cross country standout Zach Yeager leads the incoming freshman signings.  Zach is likely to adapt quickly to the 8K distance.  Robbie Walters also comes from the GHS cross country program that has had great success recently. Former GHS soccer player Jake Monzo joins the team with great speed and energy from his soccer career.

Several new meets are on this year's schedule for the Chargers, including the Illinois Intercollegiate Meet at Illinois State University.  This should be a highly competitive race which hosts all levels of college runners from across the state.  Also new on this season's slate are the Milliken Invitational and the Illinois College Meet where we should match up well with many of the teams.  We always anticipate the opportunity to perform well at the Region IV meet and the chance it brings to advance to the Nationals at the end of the season.
