NJCAA announces academic honors
7/1/2009

Galesburg— The National Junior College Athletic Association has announced that five Carl Sandburg College student-athletes have received academic honors.

Women's basketball players Megan Schmidt, Knoxville, and Britney Below, Antigo, Wis., were named Distinguished Academic All-Americans.

In order to qualify as an NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American, a sophomore student-athlete must carry a grade point average of 3.80 overall or better for the academic year.

Fellow Chargers, Ashley Brault, Saginaw, Mich., Katie Wilson, Cuba, and Courtnee Brown, Avon, were named Academic All-Americans.

Brault played soccer for CSC. Wilson and Brown were two-sport student-athletes. Wilson played softball and basketball for the Chargers and Brown played basketball and volleyball.

In order to qualify as an NJCAA Academic All-American, a sophomore student-athlete must carry a grade point average of 3.60 overall or better for the academic year.

"All these student-athletes have worked extremely hard in the classroom and are deserving of the honors they have received," said Steve Norton, CSC's athletic director.

CSC's Simmons, Wilson and Putnam named All-Conference

Galesburg –Carl Sandburg College softball players Vanessa Simmons, Katie Wilson and Jessie Putnam were named members of the Arrowhead Conference All-Conference Team.

Simmons, a sophomore outfielder from Las Vegas, Nev., had a .446 batting average, 29 hits, 5 home runs, 20 runs, and 19 RBIs in conference play.

"Vanessa did a wonderful job for us in centerfield this year and was one of the top hitters in the Arrowhead Conference," Chargers head coach Todd Winkler said. "Vanessa worked very hard this season and she deserved this award."

Wilson, a sophomore shortstop from Cuba, Ill., had a .409 batting average, 27 hits, 18 runs, 10 steals, and 15 RBIs in conference play.

"Katie stepped up her game this year and it show in her stats," Winkler said. "She played with heart every pitch of every game this season and I'm proud of her."

Putnam, a sophomore designated player from Aledo, Ill., had a .375 batting average, 18 hits, 14 runs, and 8 RBIs in conference play.

"Jessie worked very hard this year because we made her play so many positions," Winkler said. "Jessie was a team player and would play where we needed her for the good of the team. She is the definition of an unselfish player and it showed."

Simmons Named to All-Region First Teamv.simmons-small

Galesburg–Carl Sandburg College softball player Vanessa Simmons has been named a member of the NJCAA Region IV Division II All-Region First Team.

Simmons, a sophomore outfielder from Las Vegas, Nev., led CSC with a .428 batting average, 62 hits, 11 doubles, 8 home runs, 49 runs scored, 36 runs batted in and a .459 on base percentage in her final season as a Charger. 

"From the day I met Vanessa, I knew that she was capable of receiving the honor of being All-Region," Chargers coach Todd Winkler said. "Vanessa has the drive and desire that it takes to be a quality softball player. Whoever she plays for next year will be getting a quality softball player and I wish her the best of luck."

Chargers Softball Ends Season

Dixon—Yesterday afternoon, the CSC softball team (20-30, 8-12) dropped a Region IV play-in doubleheader versus the Skyhawks of Sauk Valley Community College. The score of game one was 7-5 and the score of game two was 4-3. The losses ended the season for the Chargers.

In game one, Jessica Redington stepped inside the circle for CSC and pitched six innings giving up eleven hits, seven earned runs, striking out two and walking one.

At the plate, a number of Chargers had hits. Katie Wilson had a triple, Vanessa Simmons had a double, Jessica Williamson had a single and a run batted in, Jennifer Williamson had a double, Abby Wade had a double and a RBI, Cecilia Duenas had a home run and two RBIs and Sara Turk had a single.

In game two, Tiffany Plumer took the neon green ball for CSC and pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing eight hits, three earned runs and striking out two.

Illinois Valley Sweeps Chargers
4/27/2009

Oglesby— CSC's softball team (20-28, 8-12) was swept by Illinois Valley Community College in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader last Thursday. The score of the first game was 9-1 and the score of the second game was 7-6.

CSC Sophomore Ashley Colwell was accredited with the loss in game one. In six innings, she allowed 12 hits, eight earned runs and struck out four. Offensively, CSC was led by Vanessa Simmons and Jennifer Williamson who both went 2-for-3.

In the second game, the error bug bit the Chargers as committed five errors. Jessica Redington pitched six innings for CSC giving up five hits, one earned run, striking out seven and walking three. At the plate, the Chargers were led by Redington who went 1-for-3 with a home run and three runs batted in. Fellow Chargers, Vanessa Simmons, Abby Wade and Jessica Williamson all went 2-for-4.

"We had a tough game one on the road but we did a job of playing hard in game two until the sixth inning then we gave the game away by not making plays," Chargers head coach Todd Winkler said.

CSC plays next on Tuesday, April 28 when they travel to Sauk Valley for a regional tournament play-in game which begins at 1 p.m.

Mudcats of Spoon River  Sweep Chargers
4/23/09

Canton – The Chargers softball team played the Mudcats of Spoon River in a non-conference doubleheader yesterday and was defeated 3-1 and 5-3.

Sophomore Tiffany Plumer stepped inside the chalked circle for the Chargers in game one and pitched six innings allowing five hits, walking two and striking out four. Vanessa Simmons was 2-for-3, and Jessica Williamson, Abby Wade and Felicia Appell each had a hit for the Chargers.

In game two, Ashley Colwell pitched six innings allowing six hits, one earned run, walking three and striking out four. Offensively, CSC was led by Jessica Williamson who had a triple that drove in three runs.

"We received the result of our effort today," Chargers coach Todd Winkler said. "The pitchers did a great job only giving up one earned run. The rest of the team played very poorly. We left 11 runnners on base in game two and we struck out 14 times on the day."

Lady Braves Sweep Chargers Softball
4/22/2009

Moline—Carl Sandburg College's softball team (20-24, 8-10) played an Arrowhead doubleheader against Black Hawk College yesterday afternoon dropping both games. The score of the first game was 15-3 and 5-4 was the score of the second game.

Sophomore Katie Wilson led the Chargers at the plate in game one going 2-for-2 with a home run and two runs batted in. Fellow Charger, Vanessa Simmons had a double and a RBI. CSC sophomore pitcher Ashley Colwell received the loss. In her five innings, she allowed 15 hits, six earned runs, walked three and struck out one.

Jessica Redington was accredited with the loss in game two. In six innings, she allowed six hits, three earned runs, walked three and struck out three. Offensively, CSC was led by Vanessa Simmons who went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs, Katie Wilson and Jennifer Williamson both went 2-for-4 and Kayla Bishop and Abby Wade were both 1-for-3.

"Game one was one of our worse games all year long but I have to give the ladies credit we turned ourselves around and played a very good game in the second game," Chargers coach Todd Winkler said.

The Chargers play next this weekend when they travel to Sugar Grove, Ill. to participate in the Waubonsee Tournament.

Cardinals Sweep CSC Softball
4/20/2009

Galesburg— Carl Sandburg College's softball team (20-22) played host to the Cardinals of Muscatine Community College this past Saturday coming up on the losing end in both games 10-2 and 11-3.

CSC sent two pitchers inside the circle in game one. Sophomore Tiffany Plumer started the game for the Chargers and in 3 1/3 innings of work allowed 11 hits, four earned runs and walked three. Plumer was relieved by Ashley Colwell. Colwell struck out one and walked two in her 3 1/13 innings. Plumer was accredited with the loss.

Offensively, CSC was led by Jessica Redington who went 2-for-4, Katie Wilson went 1-for-3 with a triple and a run batted in, Abby Wade went 1-for-4 with a run batted in and both Jessie Putnam and Cecilia Duenas went 1-for-3.

In game two, Jessica Redington pitched for the Chargers. In five innings, she allowed eight hits, six earned runs, walked five and struck out four. At the plate, CSC was led by Vanessa Simmons who went 2-for-3, Katie Wilson went 1-for-2 and Redington went 1-for-2 with a home run and a RBI.

"Today, we were not focused and had to many outside distractions that got in the way of what we were trying to accomplish," Chargers coach Todd Winkler said.

The Chargers play next on April 20 when they host and play John Wood in a doubleheader, which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

Chargers Softball Sweep Cougars of Highland
4/17/2009

Galesburg—Carl Sandburg College played host to the Cougars of Highland Community College in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader this past Thursday winning both games—3-0 and 14-2.

Ashley Colwell pitched a complete game for CSC in game one. In seven innings of work, she struck out eight, allowed three hits and walked one. Offensively, the Chargers were led by Jennifer Williamson and Jessica Redington who both went 2-for-3 with a home run and a run batted in. Williamson's other hit was a double. Fellow Chargers, Jessica Williamson went 2-for-3, Vanessa Weaver went 1-for-2 and Katie Wilson went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

In game two, CSC got some help from Highland. The Cougars committed eight errors in the mercy shortened game. CSC sophomore Jessica Redington pitched five innings allowing six hits and three earned runs, striking out three and walking one. At the plate, the Chargers were led by Katie Wilson who went 3-for-4 with a stolen base, Vanessa Simmons went 3-for-4 with a stolen base, Felicia Appell went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, Jennifer Williamson went 1-for-3 with a stolen base, Sara Turk went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and both Abby Wade and Jessie Putnam were 1-for-3.

 "The players on our team came together and proved that if they work together we are a solid team," Chargers coach Todd Winkler said.

Chargers Softball Take Two of Three from Kougars
4/14/2009

Malta—The Carl Sandburg College softball team (18-20, 6-8) played three Arrowhead Conference games against the Kougars of Kishwaukee College Tuesday afternoon and won game one 18-14, lost game two 11-0 and won game three 8-2.

Game one was the continuation of a game that the Cougars and Chargers played at CSC on March 31 and was suspended due to darkness. Sophomore Ashley Colwell garnered the win. She pitched six innings giving up 15 hits, seven earned runs, walking four and striking out eight. At the plate, the Chargers were led by Jessica Williamson who went 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs, Katie Wilson who went 3-for-4 with a double and five RBIs, Abby Wade who went 3-for-5 with a grand slam and had four RBIs and Vanessa Simmons and Jessie Putnam both went 2-for-3.

Game two lasted only four and a half innings due to the ten run rule. CSC was only able to muster five hits and committed four errors. Vanessa Weaver, Vanessa Simmons, Jessie Putnam, Jessica Williamson and Jennifer Williamson each had a hit for the Chargers. Charger pitcher Tiffany Plumer gave up 10 hits, four earned runs and walked five in her four innings inside the circle.

Jessica Redington pitched a complete game and was accredited with the win in game three. In her seven innings of work, she allowed six hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out five. Offensively, CSC was led by Vanessa Simmons who went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and had four RBIs, Katie Wilson went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and three RBIs, Jessie Putnam went 2-for-3 and Redington went 1-for-4 and had a RBI.

 "Well as you can see if we hit the ball, we can be very good," Chargers coach Todd Winkler said. "In game two, our bats went to sleep and the score reflects that. We had two grand slams today which is awesome. We can put runs up on the board when we hit."

The Chargers play next on April 16 at 3 p.m. when they host the Cougars of Highland.

Eagles Sweep Chargers Softball Team in Conference Doubleheader

Galesburg—The Carl Sandburg College softball team (14-15, 4-5) dropped two games to the Eagles of  Illinois Valley Community College, 7-3 and 11-10 on Tuesday.

In game one, sophomore Tiffany Plumer pitched a complete game for the Chargers giving up nine hits, five earned runs, walking one and striking out six. Sophomore Abby Wade hit her third home run of the season and had two RBIs. Fellow Chargers Jessica Redington and Katie Wilson each had two hits apiece. 

In game two, CSC was led by Vanessa Simmons who had two hits, a home run and five RBIs, Sara Turk who had a triple and a RBI, and Jessie Putnam went 2-for-2. Jessica Redington pitched a complete game for CSC giving up 14 hits, three earned runs, walking two and striking out five.

"Today, our defense made too many mistakes that cost us the game," Chargers head coach Todd Winkler said. "We need to focus and come back for our game on Thursday."

The Chargers play next on Thursday, April 9 in Dixon, Ill. at 3 p.m.

Chargers Swept in Arrowhead Conference Doubleheader

Galesburg—Last Saturday, the CSC softball team (14-13, 4-3) hosted the Lady Braves of Black Hawk College in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader and was swept. The score of game one was Lady Braves 12, CSC 0 and the score of the second game was Lady Braves 11, CSC 5.

Jessica Redington received the loss in the first game. In five innings, she allowed 14 hits and four earned runs.

In game two, Ashley Colwell received the loss, going seven innings, allowing 12 hits, and five earned runs while walking three and striking out five. Katie Wilson went 2-for-4 with a double, Jennifer Williamson went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Jessica Williamson went 3-for-4 with a RBI for the Chargers.

"Today, we played very flat and did not do a good job in any aspect of the game," said Chargers head coach Todd Winkler.

The Chargers play next on April 7 when they host Illinois Valley which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

Chargers Softball Sweep Spartans of Elgin

Elgin— The Carl Sandburg College softball team (14-11) traveled to Elgin Community College on Friday, April 3 to take on the Spartans in a doubleheader and swept them. CSC won the first game 18-14, and the second game 16-1.

In game one, sophomore pitcher Tiffany Plumer stepped inside the circle for the Chargers and pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up six hits, three earned runs, walking three and striking out two. Sophomore Ashley Colwell relieved Plumer and earned the win. Colwell pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up six hits, allowing three earned runs, striking out nine and walking one. 

At the plate, CSC was led by sophomore Abby Wade who went 4-for-6 with a double, a grand slam and had four RBIs. Wade's performance was the best one she has had as a Charger. Fellow Chargers, Cecilia Duenas went 1-for-6 with a double and three RBIs and Vanessa Simmons went 2-for-5 with a RBI and her third home run of the season.

In game two, Jessica Redington earned the win, going five innings with six hits, an earned run, two walks and three strikeouts. Offensively, CSC was led by Vanessa Simmons who went 4-for-4 with a grand slam, a double and had six RBIs, Abby Wade went 3-for-3 with a home run and a RBI, Katie Wilson went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and Sara Turk went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Chargers Softball Sweep Cougars of Highland

Freeport—The CSC softball team (12-11) traveled to Highland Community College on Thursday, April 2 and swept the Cougars in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader. The Chargers won the first game 5-3, and the second game 15-6.

CSC sophomore Jessica Redington contained the Cougars in the first game, pitching seven innings with five hits, three strikeouts and one walk. Offensively, the Chargers were led by Vanessa Simmons who went 2-for-3 with two home runs and two RBIs.

In game two, Tiffany Plumer stepped inside the circle for CSC and allowed five earned runs, seven hits and walked one in 2 1/3 innings. Ashley Colwell came into the game to relieve Plumer and was accredited with a save. 

A number of Chargers had excellent games at the plate in the second game, Abby Wade went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, Vanessa Simmons went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Katie Wilson went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBIs, Jessica Redington went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI, Cecilia Duenas went 2-for-4 with a home run and a RBI, Jennifer Williamson went 2-for-3 with a RBI, Felicia Appell 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI, and Jessica Williamson went 1-for-4 with a RBI and hit her second home run this season.

Softball Team Defeat Kougars of Kishwaukee

Galesburg—The Carl Sandburg College softball team (10-11) played an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader with the Kougars of Kishwaukee College on Tuesday afternoon and won game one 22-17 and the second game was suspended because of darkness with the Chargers leading the game 13-10 in the top of the fifth inning. Game two will resume on AprilIMG_0060a 14 when the Chargers travel to Malta, Ill. to play the Kougars on their home field.

Sophomore pitcher Jessica Redington pitched a complete game for CSC allowing 17 hits, walking one and striking out 11. The Chargers had a 17-1 lead after two innings but had to fight the Kougars off after they scored 11 runs in the fourth and fifth inning. Both teams combined for 41 hits in the game, 24 hits came from CSC.

IMG_0072"Today we hit the ball well as a team and we had Kishwaukee down but let them back in the game," Chargers coach Todd Winkler said. "Overall we played well."

Seven players had at least three hits in the game for the Chargers, including Katie Wilson, who went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and came a home run short of the cycle.

Jennifer Williamson went 3-for-4 with a double and five RBIs, and Jessica Redington had a double and drove in three. Jessie Putnam and Kayla Bishop each went 4-for-5.

Chargers Softball Sweep Golden Eagles
3/31/2009

Loves Park—Carl Sandburg College's softball team (9-11) traveled to Loves Park, Ill. Monday afternoon for a doubleheader versus the Golden Eagles of Rock Valley College and picked up two wins—14-2 and 11-7.

In game one, sophomore Jessica Redington stepped inside the circle and pitched a complete game for the Chargers. In six innings, she allowed only five hits, two walks, no earned runs and struck out three. Redington and Vanessa Simmons went 3-for-4 to lead CSC at the plate.

In the nightcap, the Chargers were led offensively by Abby Wade who went 2-for-2 and had a stolen base, Katie Wilson who went 2-for-4 and also had a stolen base and Jen Williamson went 2-for-4 and had an RBI. Tiffany Plumer was accredited with the victory. In seven innings, she allowed 11 hits, five earned runs, walked three and struck out three.

"Today was a cold day to play and we did a great job of taking care of game one," Chargers coach Todd Winkler said. "In game two, we played hard the whole way and came from behind to win. The team did a great job."

Chargers Softball Split Doubleheader with Skyhawks
3/30/2009

Galesburg—Last Thursday, the Chargers of Carl Sandburg College (7-11) opened Arrowhead Conference play taking on the Sauk Valley Skyhawks. The Skyhawks won the first game 8-0 and CSC won game two 2-0.

Five errors and offensive woes were costly in the Chargers loss in game one. CSC was only able to collect three hits. Abby Wade, Jessie Putnam and Vanessa Weaver each had a hit for the Chargers. Ashley Colwell suffered the loss for CSC. In seven innings pitched, Colwell allowed 10 hits and four earned runs.

In the second game, Chargers sophomore pitcher Jessica Redington recorded the win in a complete game with seven hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Offensively, CSC still suffered woes, but Kayla Bishop's 1-for-3 performance was enough as the Chargers scored two runs on her single.

"Today, we were not focused and prepared for game one and it showed," Chargers coach Todd Winkler said. "But we did a great job of pulling it together in game two and we finished the game the way we are capable of."

Chargers Softball Sweep Golden Eagles
3/26/2009

Galesburg—Carl Sandburg's softball team (6-10) swept the Golden Eagles of Rock Valley College on Wednesday afternoon.

CSC scored five in the sixth inning of Game 1 to win 7-3. The Chargers were led by Jessica Redington who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Jessie Putnam went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

Tiffany Plumer was accredited with the win. She struck out four Golden Eagles, walked three and allowed seven hits.

CSC won Game 2 by a score of 7-4, thanks in part to four runs in the bottom of the first after Rock Valley opened the game with a pair of runs.

Vanessa Simmons went 1-for-4 and had three RBIs for the Chargers, and Jessica Williamson added a home run. Abby Wade went 2-for-4 with a triple.

Ashley Colwell earned the victory allowing two earned runs on eight hits. She struck out eight and walked three.

"We played well today and we had some players step up and hit," Chargers coach Todd Winkler said. "The pitching staff is doing a great job and when we make routine plays on defense we get the W."

Blazers Defeat Chargers Softball Team
3/24/2009

Quincy—On March 20, Carl Sandburg College's softball team (4-10) traveled to Quincy, Ill. and played two games versus the Blazers of John Wood Community College and was defeated 15-0 in the first game and 5-2 in the second game.

In game one, Jessica Redington was accredited with the loss. In three and one-third innings pitched, she allowed 12 of the Blazers 15 hits and 9 earned runs. Offensively, Redington was 2-for-2 as was Cecilia Duenas.

"We played John Wood a week and a day ago and beat them both games on a neutral field." Chargers head coach Todd Winkler said. "Today in game one we got beat 0-15 at their place can we say tight strike zone for us."

In game two, Chargers pitcher Ashley Colwell allowed only four hits and no earned runs, and CSC's five errors were the key factor in the loss.

"We only have ourselves to blame for the game two loss," Winkler said. "When a pitcher gives up zero earned runs and we lose 2-5 our defense has to step-up"

The Chargers will play again on Wed., March 25 at 3 p.m. when they host Rock Valley College.

Chargers Softball Drop First Two Games North of Mason-Dixon Line
3/19/2009

Muscatine, Iowa—Carl Sandburg College's softball team (2-8) played their first games of the season north of the Mason-Dixon Line Wednesday afternoon versus the Cardinals of Muscatine College. The Chargers dropped both games of the doubleheader. The score of the first game was 0-8 and the second game score was 15-1.

In game one, Ashley Colwell pitched six innings for the Chargers and was accredited with the loss. Colwell walked five, allowed 11 hits and four earned runs.

"The plate was very tight for us in the first game," Chargers head coach Todd Winkler said. "We were in the ball game but we made too many errors late in the game and that hurts."

In game two, Jessica Redington threw four innings for CSC and allowed 12 hits, six earned runs and four walks.

 "Game two was not our game," Winkler said. "Again, we had too many errors from players who should not be making them. We have to have a better performance tomorrow."

The Chargers travel to Rock Island, Ill. to face the Vikings of Augustana College today (March 19). Game one of the double header is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

Lady Warriors Defeat Chargers Softball Team

Pensacola, Fla.—In a doubleheader, Carl Sandburg College's softball team (0-2) was defeated by the Lady Warriors of Wabash Valley College 2-16 and 3-22.

The Chargers have six games remaining on their Spring Break trip before they return to Illinois and host and play a doubleheader versus the Augustana Vikings JV softball team on March 13. The first game versus the Vikings is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

Chargers Softball Team Begins 2009 Spring Season

Galesburg- Shortly after the Spring semester started at CSC, the softball team began preparing for their Spring season. The Chargers are coached by Todd Winkler and have 10IMG_0040 players returning from last season's team.

"I have high expectations for this team this season because we have 10 returning seasoned sophomores," said CSC softball head coach Todd Winkler. "With the addition of our freshmen, we will be a very talented team, but we will need to play to our ability to be successful. I expect us to be very competitive at the end of the season."

The softball team´s first game of the season is on March 8. The team will play six games in Florida and two in Alabama, March 8-12. When the team returns to Illinois, they will host Augustana College on March 13.

Austin Signs to Play Softball for CSC

Galesburg Carl Sandburg College head softball coach Todd Winkler announced Amy Austin (Hoopeston, Ill.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball for the Chargers during the 2009-10 season.

Austin, a senior at Hoopeston Area High School, batted .515, had 8 home runs and 50 RBI's in 29 games as a junior.

Winkler believes Austin has a shot at being a dominant player in the Arrowhead Conference.

"Amy has a chance of being All-Region if she works hard," Winkler said. "I look for very big things from her. She is a phenomenal catcher."

Galesburg – Carl Sandburg College head softball and volleyball coach Todd Winkler announced Samantha Boucher (Brighton, Ill.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball and softball for the Chargers during the 2009-10 season.

Slater, a senior at Piasa Southwestern High School, batted .296, and scored 71 runs in 366 trips to the batter's box as a junior for the Birds.

Winkler believes Slater will become a leader for the Chargers.

"Sam is a wonderful kid with a positive attitude," Winkler said. "She will bring positive leadership to teams that will be very young next year. It is going to be my pleasure to have her around for the next two years."

GalesburgCarl Sandburg College softball player Jessica Redington has been named a member of the NCAA Division II Pre-Season All-American Second Team.

"It is a great honor for Jessica to be nominated," said CSC head softball coach Todd Winkler. "She is well-deserving of the award, but she has to keep in mind that she has to focus and finish that goal."

Redington, a sophomore utility player, from Avon, had a .347 batting average to go along with 11 doubles, three triples, four homeruns, 36 runs batted in and three stolen bases as a Charger last season.

Slater Signs for Chargers for 2009-10 Megan-Slater-Signing

Galesburg – Carl Sandburg College head softball coach Todd Winkler announced Megan Slater has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball for the Chargers during the 2009-10 season.

Slater, a senior at Bushnell-Prairie City, collected 333 strikeouts, 47 walks, and a 23-7 record to go along with a 0.84 ERA in 30 games as a Spartan during her junior year.

Winkler believes Slater will become an established pitcher for the Chargers.

"Megan is a great kid who comes from a nice family," Winkler said. "I think she will fit in well. We are in need of pitchers. She has proven herself the last three years at B-PC."
