FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS
1. Apply for admission. This enables us to establish a computer file for you. Forms are available at the Admissions Office, (309) 341-5487.
2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A FAFSA form is available in the CSC Financial Aid Kit. You are encouraged to complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Applications filed on the Web are processed faster and with fewer errors. You may sign your application using a Personal Identification Number (PIN) available from the federal processor, or print and mail a signature page. Information to obtain a PIN is provided below.
3. CSC's college code is 007265.
4. Submit CSC's Institutional Financial Aid Form found on page one of the Financial Aid Kit or download and print an Institutional Form here.
5. You will receive the Student Aid Report (SAR) within four weeks after filing the FAFSA. Review these forms and notify the Financial Aid Office of any errors immediately.
6. Respond quickly to any request(s) for additional information from our Financial Aid Office.
7. You will receive a "Financial Aid Award Notification" from CSC indicating the amount and types of aid for which you are eligible. If you are interested in a loan, you must complete additional paperwork. This information will be included with the Financial Aid Award Notification.
NOTE: Summer financial aid is processed separately; please watch your mail in April for instructions.
PROCESSING DEADLINES
It is the students responsibility to have financial aid in place or pay his/her tuition and fees by the tuition deadline. It normally takes about four weeks to process your federal student aid application and seven to ten business days once documents are submitted to CSC. Loans take approximately two weeks to process once the loan request form is submitted.
PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (PIN) PIN stands for Personal Identification Number. Once you apply for financial aid, the federal government will assign you a PIN. This number may be used as an electronic signature on future financial aid applications. In addition, the PIN may be used to check the status of your FAFSA, view a history of your financial aid received, and get information about your Federal Direct Student Loan. To learn more, go to the PIN Web site at www.pin.ed.gov.
The College has a separate PIN process that allows you to access data. To obtain a CSC PIN to access registration and payment information, go to the CSC web site at www.sandburg.edu. Go to Register, Register Online Now, Online Student Services, then enter your Social Security number and hit the "Forgot your PIN" button. Or you can stop by the Registration Office.
VERIFICATION One-third of all financial aid applications are selected for a process called "Verification." Verification is the process of checking the accuracy of information students provide on financial aid applications. Information you provide may be selected for verification by our Financial Aid Office or by the U.S. Department of Education. Students whose aid applications are being verified will not receive financial aid funds, including funds through the Federal Direct Stafford Loan Program, until the verification process has been completed. The process may be lengthy and some students may be determined ineligible for aid.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Some individuals may experience special circumstances that are not reflected on the aid application. If you experience a loss of job or benefits, a death, or divorce, you may qualify for special consideration. Special Conditions applications may be submitted after July 1, and only after the student has been awarded federal student aid. Recalculation under special conditions may affect federal aid programs and, in some situations, the Illinois MAP Grant. Please contact the Financial Aid Office for a Special Conditions form.
