Academic Advising During the first term at the College, each full-time student is assigned to a faculty member who is the student's academic advisor during his/her time at the College. In most cases, this assignment will come after an initial advising session with one of the college counselors. Each term, prior to registration, it is the student's responsibility to meet with his/her academic counselor to discuss courses for the upcoming semester. The academic advisor serves as a valuable information resource to the student in the areas of program requirements, college graduation requirements and transfer coursework. It is important that students arrange to meet with their academic advisors BEFORE registration begins. The counseling staff will continue to work with those students who remain undecided concerning their program of study. Part-time students and those students enrolled in continuing education courses are not assigned advisors but are strongly encouraged to seek advice from individual faculty members, the counseling staff. The Office of Student Services offers a variety of personal inventory and vocational tests to assist students in making career decisions. Students can arrange with any of the counselors for testing and follow-up interpretation.
Personal Counseling The counseling staff at the College provides psychological services for students facing personal or family problems. The special skills and training of the counseling staff enable them to work with students on an individual basis or in a group setting. Students seeking personal help should schedule an appointment with one of the counselors in the Office of Student Services.
Veterans' Advising The Veterans' advisor works with veterans and members of the Reserve receiving educational benefits. This counselor provides the student with application forms, guidance in program choice, information and assistance regarding regulations, and general career, academic and personal counseling. All veterans, regardless of expected benefits, are encouraged to contact the veterans' advisor at the College. |
