Any questions regarding external scholarships should be directed to the originating scholarship organization listed on their website or application.

External scholarship opportunities 

Mike Rowe Work Ethic Scholarship Program (includes the following programs: automotive technology, computer information technology, nursing (LPN), welding, etc.) - The Work Ethic Scholarship Program will give away $1,000,000 in scholarships this year. To be eligible for this award, you must: 

  • Be a high school senior, high school graduate, or have a GED equivalent
  • Plan to complete an approved trade program after December 1, 2024
  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in an approved trade program at an accredited two-year college, vocational, or technical school, or other approved technical institute in the United States.

Paul Simon Democracy Prize - Three prizes of $5,000 will be awarded to current Illinois college or university students for the design and implementation of projects to revitalize democracy in their communities. For the Democracy Prize, students must submit a video proposal by May 1, 2024. 

Proposals could involve hosting public discussions or debates, registering voters, funding school newspapers to cover local issues, creating a speaker series on community matters, developing a program to recruit and train poll watchers -- or an entirely new idea. Coca-Cola Foundation Scholarships Various scholarship opportunities open to Phi Theta Kappa members and non-members (please note under each scholarship description) Deadline: May 15, 2024.

Altrusa Scholarship - To receive the $1,000 scholarship, applicants must: be a registered student returning to the workforce or seeking advancement in current employment, be pursuing a degree or certificate, plan to use the scholarship to attend college for the upcoming fall semester, reside in Knox County, qualify for financial aid, submit three letters of recommendation or reference, and complete the application with career goals and life experiences included. Deadline: May 31, 2024 

Illinois Community College Faculty Association (ICCFA) 2024 Application - The ICCFA is pleased to announce the availability of up to seven (7) $1000 scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year. Scholarship criteria is included on the application form. Questions may be directed to Carla Presnell, Chair of the ICCFA Scholarship Committee. Deadline: September 30, 2024
