Lending Program

The TRIO SSS program has laptop computers, calculators, electronic spell checkers, and digital recorders for participants to check out for academic use during the semester. The TRIO SSS student may reserve the item in advance and will sign a Lending Program Agreement form during check out. The first time a student checks out an item, the staff will thoroughly review the form and explain the procedures and expectations. The student will also be trained on the item if they are unfamiliar with its use.

A student may check out a laptop for one week at a time. If a student needs the item for a longer period, then the student must contact the TRIO SSS office for approval to keep the item for another week. After the second week, the student must return the item and go through normal check out procedures for its continued use.

A student may check out a calculator, digital recorder or spell checker for a semester and must return it during finals week. Other items such as video tapes and other resources may be checked out on a weekly basis and returned on the agreed date.

The student is responsible for all items until it has been returned. It is not to be loaned to anyone except through the TRIO SSS office and must be returned by the TRIO SSS student.

  • Please return the item on the scheduled date. A 24 hour waiting period may be necessary to give other students an opportunity to check out the equipment. If the item is not returned promptly, the privilege of using the loan program may be revoked for a period of time or permanently.
  • Users are not to install personal software of any kind or alter passwords, software, or hardware configurations on the laptops. Copying of any CSC licensed software is prohibited.
  • The surge protector provided must be used to prevent power surges from damaging the hardware.
  • Items must be kept secure at all times and cannot be left in vehicles.
  • If the laptop is stolen, the student must notify the police and the TRIO SSS office immediately. The student must produce a copy or receipt of the police report to the TRIO SSS office within 5 working days of the theft. The student must also inform the police the item is the property of CSC.
  • If the item is misplaced, the student is responsible for notifying the TRIO SSS office immediately.
  • Care of the item is the user's responsibility. Please remember that electronic items are easily stolen, can be damaged if left in the sun or exposed to liquids, and should be kept out of the reach of children.
  • Textbooks may not be checked out for an entire semester.
  • If I withdrawal from courses or stop attending, I understand I must return the item immediately.

If the above item is not returned on the due date, the TRIO SSS staff will attempt to contact you via phone and/or email each day until the item is returned. If the item becomes 1 week past due, you will receive a letter from the TRIO SSS Director requiring you to return the item and your lending privileges may be revoked at any time. If the item becomes 10 days past the due date, a block will be placed on your account, you will receive a bill for replacement of the item, the police may be notified, and your lending privileges will be revoked. If you are habitually late returning items, the staff will discuss the situation at a staff meeting and may revoke all lending privileges for the student's tenure in the program.
