Carl Sandburg College offers students the opportunity to prepare for a wide array of business careers from office assistant to managerial positions. Business careers are readily available in many locations and can include high income especially for those who obtain Bachelors or Masters degrees.
Students have the opportunity to make the business programs work with their schedule. The Business and Computing Technology lab offers students the opportunity to complete coursework at their own pace. Students in business and accounting programs utilize computers regularly throughout their coursework.
Employment for accountants is expected to grow faster than average for all occupations through the year 2014. An increase in the number of businesses, changing financial laws and regulations, and increased scrutiny of company finances will drive growth.
Employers are seeking applicants with strong interpersonal and communication skills. They must be able to communicate accounting and financial information clearly and concisely. Regardless of one’s qualifications, however, competition will remain keen for the most prestigious jobs in major accounting and business firms.
Overall employment of secretaries and administrative assistants is expected to grow more slowly than average for all occupations through 2014. Numerous job openings will result from the need to replace workers who transfer to other occupations or leave the occupation. Applicants with extensive knowledge of software applications will be in high demand.
