College Preparation Center

The College Preparatory Center provides college preparatory courses in Reading, Writing and Math. Self-paced instruction and tutoring options are available for some courses. The services of this center are especially helpful for recent high school graduates who need to build a strong educational foundation before enrolling in traditional college courses or for adults who need to refresh their skills. The center is located in Building A.

College Preparatory Courses
These college preparatory courses, which bolster knowledge and skills, are among those offered through the College Preparatory Center: Arithmetic Fundamentals, Fundamentals of Algebra, and Geometry and Trigonometry Review, Phonics (for spelling improvement), Reading Comprehension, College Survival Skills, English Fundamentals 1, and English Fundamentals 2. (See course descriptions in the college catalog for specific details.) Placement tests are available in English, reading and mathematics for students who are uncertain if courses in this program will be beneficial for them.

The College Preparatory Center is a good place for students to come if they are unsure of their ability to do college work. College Preparatory Center staff can help students assess their capabilities and help guide them into the appropriate courses for their skill level.

College Survival Skills
An important course offered by the Center is College Survival Skills. This course instructs students in the fundamental skills necessary to function as college students: how to take notes, how to study for tests, how to take tests, how to understand reading material, and other basic skills.

College Reading and Study Skills
The Center also offers the course Strategies for the Success at College. This is a three-hour, college transfer course that helps students develop learning and studying skills along with critical reading and thinking skills.

Academic Computer Labs
Academic Computer Labs are provided for currently enrolled CSC students in ASC classes.   CSC staff members and lab assistants are available to assist students in the labs.
