We will begin this educational day trip with a visit to the Dyer-Botsford Doll Museum. Home to the founder of Dyersville, this restored Victorian home has a collection of over 2,000 dolls and features a rare revolving German Feather Christmas tree with antique ornaments. Afterwards, we will travel to the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier. The Basilica is one of 77 in the United States and the only one in a rural community. At 1 p.m., we will eat a home cooked style lunch at Country Junction restaurant. Save room for a slice of pie! It’s then time to get ready for the Major League Baseball season with a visit to the Field of Dreams Movie Site. See the baseball field featured in the famous 1989 movie and join the estimated 65,000 people who travel to the site every year. From there, we will travel to Becker Woodcarving Museum to view the woodworking designs of the famed Northeast Iowa carver, Jack Becker, in one of Iowa’s most unique carving museums. Top off the day with ice cream from Dairy Queen. A $5 sweet treat certificate will be given to each individual. Cost includes transportation and entrance to attractions. Please wear comfortable walking shoes with good tread. No open-toed shoes. Lunch and shopping expenses are at your own cost. Space is limited, minimum of 10. Registration required by Wednesday, March 29. No cancellation past 03/29/17; however, a substitute can attend. Shuttle bus departs from Carl Sandburg College’s Center for Manufacturing Excellence, 2051 Tom L. Wilson Blvd., Galesburg.
