This day trip starts with a tour of the David Davis Mansion, completed in 1872, and later donated to the state of Illinois. Davis was Abraham Lincoln’s campaign manager and was appointed to the United States Supreme Court by President Lincoln. The 36-room home is where Davis resided for 14 years. Today, the home operates as a state historic site and contains many of the original elegant architectural details. Following our tour, we will browse through a few downtown Bloomington shops. Lunch will consist of your choice of salads, burgers or additional sandwiches. Our lunch destination, Rosie’s Restaurant, is located at the historic site of Abraham Lincoln’s Bloomington law office. After eating, we head to the Cruisin’ with Lincoln on 66: Bloomington-Normal Visitors Center. Learn about the history of Route 66 through an interpretative exhibit, as well as seeing souvenirs and publications unique to the area. You can also explore more about Abraham Lincoln’s life and local McLean County history in the museum located upstairs from the Visitors Center. A stop at famed Carl’s Ice Cream completes our day trip adventure. Cost includes transportation and admission to attractions. Lunch and shopping expenses are at your own cost. Planned arrival time is 9:00 a.m., we will depart at 3:00 p.m. Space is limited, minimum of 10 required. Registration required by Wednesday, November 1.
