Get ready to explore Cedar Rapids, Iowa! The day begins with a guided tour of the 21-room Brucemore Mansion featuring the stories of three families who resided in the Mansion. (Note: Tour guests are required to wear the provided shoe coverings). After our tour, we will head to NewBo City Market for a one-of-a-kind shopping and dining experience. At NewBo, choose your lunch from one of many food entrepreneurs selling locally grown and prepared goods. Aroma Artisan Pizza, Saucy Foccacia, and Dumpling Darling are just a few of the restaurant options. There will also be a chance to browse the various shops specializing in baked goods, crafts, home décor items, clothing, and much more. Afterwards, we will stop at the Veterans Memorial Building to view a stained glass window created by artist Grant Wood. The window is one of Wood’s most admired works and a lasting tribute to Veterans. We will then tour the original home and studio of Grant Wood. The day concludes with a visit to the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art featuring the world’s largest collection of Grant Wood art on display. Comfortable walking shoes with good tread are recommended, as we will be walking long distances on varied surfaces. Please no open-toed shoes. A visit to Brucemore Mansion and Grant Wood Studio includes climbing many stairs, some of which are steep and narrow. Day trip cost includes transportation and admission to the attractions. Lunch and shopping expenses are at your own cost. Planned arrival time is 9:00 a.m., we will depart Cedar Rapids at 4:00 p.m. Space is limited, minimum of 10 required. Registration required by Wednesday, May 23. No cancellations past 05/23/18; however, a substitute can attend. Shuttle bus departs from Carl Sandburg College’s Center for Manufacturing Excellence, 2051 Tom L. Wilson Blvd., Galesburg.
