LaSalle/Ottawa, Illinois – Wednesday, June 27, 2018

This day trip is not to be missed! Enjoy a historical mule-pulled 1840’s replica boat trip up and down the Illinois and Michigan Canal. The boat trip will provide one-hour of relaxation as you learn historical information. Afterwards, it’s time for a delicious lunch at the Lock 16 Café offering classic sandwiches and several healthy menu options. There will also be time to take a look in the Lock 16 Gift Shop with a selection of unique gifts, seasonal décor, souvenirs and other exclusive items! At 1 p.m., we will tour two floors of the Hegeler Carus Mansion (photo featured on the brochure cover, far right). The seven-level Mansion was completed in 1876 and has 16,000 square feet of interior space. Our next stop includes a visit to Reddick Mansion in Ottawa, Illinois. The Reddick Mansion is situated near the site of the first Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Built in 1855, much of the 22-room home has been restored to its prior splendor. After the home tour, we will see the Lincoln-Douglas debate site monument featuring Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas statues. The day ends with a stop at Triple J Ice Cream! Hegeler Mansion does have an elevator. The Reddick Mansion has several steps and no elevator. Planned arrival time is 9:00 a.m., we will depart around 4:30 p.m. Space is limited, minimum of 10 required. Registration required by Monday, June 18. No cancellations past 06/18/18; however, a substitute can attend. Shuttle bus departs from Carl Sandburg College’s Center for Manufacturing Excellence, 2051 Tom L. Wilson Blvd., Galesburg
