Course Spotlight: Business as a Force for Social Good

Instructor: Matthew Hansen

Business is a complex entity. It is about people, supply chains, and the local or global contexts that  allow business to survive. Which means there is no such thing as a socially neutral business. Our businesses are either draining or building up our local economies and supporting citizens, or they are not. The past twenty years has shown us, that despite the many benefits of globalization, there has been a dark side to this “growth.”  Small rural communities have been on the brunt end of modernization. To be a for-profit business committed to social good seems as if we have to add another “to-do” to our schedules.  But doing good is simple, and it all begins with our axioms. We will discuss four foundational-footings needed to use your business for social good.
