OGLESBY—Sophomore forward Jeremy Brown (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central) scored a career-high 29 points and the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team ran away from Illinois Valley in the second half for a 78-47 Arrowhead Conference victory on Thursday night.
Brown hit 13 of 18 shots, including two 3-pointers, and easily surpassed his previous career high of 16 points from Dec. 7 against St. Ambrose JV. The Chargers (11-7, 1-1) also got 10 points from sophomore forward Aaron Powers (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) as they shot 31 of 54 from the floor.
Sandburg led just 33-26 at halftime but outscored the Eagles (8-10, 0-3) 45-21 in the second half.
“Tonight was the best we have played all season. Our ball movement and shot selection was great all 40 minutes,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “Our guards did a great job of getting everyone involved, and we were very hard to defend because we were making the extra pass all night, which led to us taking high-percentage shots. We took a big step forward tonight as a team.”
The Chargers host two conference games week at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. Sandburg takes on Black Hawk at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday before facing Kishwaukee at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
