GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team closed its regular season home schedule by pulling away to beat Highland 66-60 on Thursday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium in Arrowhead Conference play.
The Chargers (12-12, 5-5) led 27-26 at halftime on Sophomore Night but opened the second half by scoring 15 of the first 16. The Cougars pulled within 58-56, but Sandburg sophomore forward Marysa Remick (Victoria, Ill./ROWVA) hit a key 3-pointer with just over 2 minutes left to help seal the victory.
Remick led the Chargers with 15 points, and sophomore guard Jordyn Chasteen (Canton, Ill./Canton) scored 14 points, highlighted by a 10-for-16 performance at the free-throw line. Freshman forward Julia Isenhour (Clinton, Iowa/Prince of Peace) added 12 points for Sandburg.
“It’s always nice to pick up a good win on Sophomore Night,” Chargers coach Mike Bailey said. “I thought our passing was good for most of the night, and we did a good job of being aggressive with the ball and getting to the line.”
Highland’s Regina McClarn led all players with 25 points before fouling out.
The contest was the final home game for the Chargers’ nine sophomores — Remick, Chasteen, Courtney Admire, Paige Martin, Destini Bollinger, Kaylee Moseley, Tesha Woolley, Terra Eberle and Lexa Mahr.
Sandburg will close the regular season by playing at Sauk Valley at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
