LASALLE—The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team finished second in the first Arrowhead Conference match of the spring season Wednesday at Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Club.
The Chargers shot 333 as a team, finishing behind only Black Hawk’s 310. Illinois Valley was third at 360, and Highland shot 379 as a team.
Nick Gustafson led Sandburg with a 9-over-par 81. Chad Hatch followed with an 82, while Cody Reiber and Joey Juergens each shot 85 for the Chargers. Mark Dockstader added a 92 for Sandburg.
“Today’s round was a struggle for all the teams. A wet golf course and a lot of wind, low scores were very hard to find,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “Only three of the 27 golfers were able to shoot in the 70s today. We are looking forward to playing better golf this weekend and in our next conference meet.”
Sandburg will participate in the Scot-Fire Invite, hosted by Knox College and Monmouth College, at noon Friday at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg and 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth. The Chargers will host the next Arrowhead match at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lake Bracken Country Club.
