GALESBURG—Sophomore guard Makenzie Frank (Knoxville) hit five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 15 points in her final home game, but the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team fell to Black Hawk 63-57 on Sophomore Night on Tuesday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
Frank hit four of her 3s in the first half as the Chargers (9-17, 3-8) hit eight total from beyond the arc to take a 33-25 lead into halftime. The Braves, though, rallied to deny Sandburg its third straight Arrowhead Conference victory.
The Chargers built their largest lead at 39-30 with 16 minutes, 11 seconds left, but Black Hawk never trailed after Sanela Causevic’s 3-pointer gave it a 48-47 advantage with 7:22 to play.
Freshman forward Marysa Remick (ROWVA) added 10 points for the Chargers. Galesburg High School product Jamie Johnson led the Braves with 15 points. Causevic added 14 points for Black Hawk while Lauren Ickes and Ridgewood product Ella Teel each scored 12.
The Chargers close the regular season at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Kishwaukee.
