GALESBURG—Freshman guard Vince Gooden (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) scored a season-high 25 points and the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team won its fifth game in a row with a 78-59 victory over Lincoln Land on Saturday in the final game of the Sandburg Classic.
The Chargers (6-3) also hit a season-best nine 3-pointers as they went 2-0 in the modified round-robin tournament. Sophomore forward Jacob Warner (Galva, Ill./Galva) added 14 points for Sandburg, which led 31-23 at halftime.
“We had a great team win. Our bench played outstanding and that was the difference in the game,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “It was great to see Vince hit some shots today. He is capable of doing some great things for us. Jacob Warner has also given us some great minutes as well the past couple of games. We need to continue to grow and find our team identity.”
Galesburg native Garrett Williams led Lincoln Land with 12 points.
Sandburg will play next at 6 p.m. Saturday at Clinton (Iowa).
