MOLINE—Brooke Howard and Grace Cleair each threw complete games as the Carl Sandburg College softball team swept Black Hawk in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader on Saturday, winning 5-2 and 4-2.
After the Braves scored twice in the first inning of Game 1, the Chargers went ahead by scoring all five of their runs in the sixth, using five singles and a pair of Black Hawk errors. Corinne Heins scored the go-ahead run on an error with the bases loaded. Howard, meanwhile, allowed just six hits in the contest and only three after the first inning. The sophomore right-hander struck out six and didn’t issue a walk.
Cleair followed by allowing only two hits in Game 2. She struck out four and walked three, and she helped her own cause with a two-run single in the sixth. Shortstop Jordyn Chasteen had a pair of hits and scored a run, and outfielder Shannon Kasap drove in a run and crossed the plate.
Sandburg has won its last three games and nine of its past 12. The Chargers look to stay hot when they return to conference action at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Kishwaukee at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.
