CRYSTAL LAKE—Freshman forward Aaron Powers (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) scored a career-high 24 points as the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team won 100-78 at McHenry County (4-6) on Tuesday.
Freshman guard Juwan Hubbard (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) also had a career-high with 22 points as the Chargers (9-4) won their third in a row and for the fourth time in five games. Sophomore guard Zach Grover (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) scored 15 and sophomore guard Seth Wickert (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) added 12 points as Sandburg, which led 44-34 at halftime, set a season high for points. The Chargers’ previous best came in a 97-77 win over Iowa Wesleyan JV on Nov. 10.
“We got off to a bit of a slow start, but we really started hitting a lot of shots in the second half,” said Sandburg coach Ryan Twaddle, whose team hit 12 3-pointers.
The Chargers’ next game is 7 p.m. Thursday at Elgin.
