GALESBURG—The Sandburg Days festival for the mind Photography Contest awards reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in the Sanderson Room of the Galesburg Public Library, 40 E. Simmons St.
Entries for the contest may be turned in to the Galesburg Public Library through 8 p.m. April 16. A $25 cash prize will be awarded to the local amateur photographer who wins Best of Show, and a $20 gift certificate from The Frame Works will be awarded for first place in four categories: Fire Stations; Sports and Recreation; the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Site at Knox College’s Old Main; and Bricks. The judge for this year’s contest is Bill Gaither, coordinator of multimedia at Carl Sandburg College and a former photographer for the Galesburg Register-Mail.
There is no fee to enter, with a limit of 12 photographs per person, three per category. Photos should be no larger than 8 inches by 10 inches and created within the last year. Photos must have a secure wire on the back and be ready to hang on the display board. Prints in a frame are preferred, but prints in a matte are acceptable. The contest is sponsored by The Frame Works, Foley Photo Studio, the Galesburg Public Library and the Galesburg Register-Mail and is part of the 18th annual Sandburg Days festival for the mind, which takes place April 17-20 in Galesburg. The Sandburg Days festival for the mind honors Galesburg-born, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Abraham Lincoln biographer Carl Sandburg and his family by celebrating with the community through educational and recreational activities.
