PORT BYRON—The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team shot its lowest round of the season and finished 10th on Friday in the Duane Chanay Classic at Byron Hills Golf Course.
The Chargers shot 312 as a team — five strokes better than their previous season low — finishing just three shots out of fifth and seven shots out of third. Sophomore Joey Juergens (Galesburg) and freshman Ryan Ballard (Metamora) each shot a 6-over-par 77 to lead Sandburg. Sophomore Patrick Lewis (Williamsfield) added a 78 that was highlighted by a front-nine 36, and freshman Austin McDougall III (Pekin) came in with an 80 to round out Sandburg’s scoring. Freshmen Dylan Mullins (Metamora) and Bryer Anderson (Farmington) shot 82 and 89, respectively, for the Chargers.
Black Hawk Gold won the tournament with a 293, beating Illinois Central by four shots. College of DuPage’s Jordan Yamamoto shot a 4-under 67 to take medalist honors.
