GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team won its third straight game and remained unbeaten in division play with a 2-0 victory over Malcolm X College on Saturday afternoon at Kleine Equipment Field.
The Chargers (3-1, 2-0) got on the board early when freshman John Fletcher Molchin found sophomore Kevin Aka in fifth minute for Aka’s fourth goal in as many games. Sandburg took a 2-0 lead into halftime after freshman Zach Ziemba took a feed from freshman Manfred Gonzalez and scored in the 43rd minute for his first goal of the year.
“It was a beautiful goal,” Chargers coach Allen Eskridge said. “It was one of the nicest goals we’ve had this season, right in the upper 90.”
Freshman goalkeeper Collin Jeffcoat made the lead stand as he picked up his second consecutive shutout. Sandburg outshot Malcolm X 17-4.
“We’re happy to have won, but we still feel like we could’ve played better,” Eskridge said.
The Chargers play the second of four straight home games when they take on Kennedy-King College at 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at Kleine Equipment Field.
