MALTA—Kishwaukee completed a season sweep of the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team by topping the Chargers 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 on Tuesday in Arrowhead Conference action.
Sandburg (18-16, 7-4) was led sophomore setter Lexa Mahr (Macomb), who posted 14 assists along with five kills. Freshman libero Justine Bodenhamer had a team-best 16 digs for the Chargers. Sophomore middle hitter Caitlin McVay (Rockridge) had a team-leading seven kills, and freshman middle hitter Rachel Barr put down four kills.
Kishwaukee improved to 20-18 overall and remained unbeaten in 11 Arrowhead matches.
“We started out with a few mistakes, and that set the tone for us tonight,” Chargers coach Todd Winkler said. “We fought hard all night, but give Kishwaukee credit. They made the plays all night long and took us out of our game."
Sandburg closes its Arrowhead Conference and home schedule when it hosts Highland at 6 p.m. tonight at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. The Chargers will honor their six sophomores — Erika Hibberd, Lexa Mahr, Caitlin McVay, Lorren Newingham, Sadie Van Norman and Ashlynn Winkler — prior to the start of the match.
