GALESBURG—For the first time, the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team will have a preseason intra-squad scrimmage open to the public when it holds the Navy & Red Scrimmage at 6 p.m. Tuesday in John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
Admission is free for all Sandburg students, faculty and staff, and the general public is asked to bring an item to be donated to the Carl Sandburg College Resource Room.
The Resource Room was established in 2010 to support the College’s student body. Located in Building B, it’s sustained by donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries, school supplies and other items that can be used by Sandburg students in need.
“This is a good opportunity for us to have a final tune-up before our season starts and give our fans a first look at the team, but the most important thing is that it’s a way to give back to students here on campus who may be in need,” Chargers coach Todd Winkler said. “We’re always willing to find a way to help people who need a hand.”
Sandburg opens the season Aug. 22 with the South Suburban Invite in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The Chargers’ first home match is 6 p.m. Sept. 10 against Illinois Valley.
