GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team lost to Kishwaukee 25-12, 25-18, 25-21 in an Arrowhead Conference match Wednesday night at John Lewis Gymnasium.
The Kougars used runs of 6-0 and 7-0 to run away with the first set. After the Chargers (6-6, 2-4) tied the second set at 13-13, Kishwaukee grabbed control by taking five of the next six points. The Kougars had leads of 7-1 and 19-9 in the third set, but Sandburg clawed to within three points on a pair of occasions before Kishwaukee closed it out.
Sophomore middle hitter Caitlyn Godfrey led the Chargers with 13 kills, two blocks and their only ace. Sophomore outside hitter Mercedes Sazone had nine kills, freshman setter Lexa Mahr had a team-best 28 assists and sophomore libero Dani Lessard recorded 12 digs for Sandburg.
The Chargers end a stretch of three matches in three days by hosting Elgin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in a nonconference match at John Lewis Gymnasium.
