GALESBURG—Carl Sandburg College Vice President of Administrative Services and CIO Dr. Samuel Sudhakar has accepted a position as vice president for information and technology and CIO at California State University San Bernardino. Sudhakar’s resignation from Sandburg is effective July 31 and was accepted Thursday by the College’s Board of Trustees at its regular monthly meeting.
Sudhakar, who will begin his new position Aug. 15, has been employed at Sandburg since 1999, when he began as dean of technology services and later as vice president of technology services. He then became the vice president of administrative services and CIO in 2008.
“I am truly grateful to the Board of Trustees, President Sundberg and my colleagues at Carl Sandburg College for their support, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together in the past 14 years,” Sudhakar said.
Under Sudhakar’s leadership, Sandburg has been named by e.Republic’s Center for Digital Education as one of the top 10 colleges its size in the country for digital technology each of the past six years, and the College ranked first in its category for 2012. Sandburg also was selected by the Community College Futures Assembly as a finalist for the 2013 Bellwether Award, which is given annually to community colleges with outstanding innovative programs or practices. Sudhakar also launched the College’s EduNet initiative, which won the Illinois Community College Council of Administrators Innovation Award in 2005.
Sudhakar earned his bachelor’s degree in electronics and communications engineering from Bharathiar University and his master’s in management and information systems from St. Joseph’s University, where he was a merit scholar. He graduated this year from Northcentral University with a doctorate in business administration.
“We’re terribly sorry to see Sam leave, but we couldn’t be more excited for him to have this opportunity,” President Dr. Lori Sundberg said. “He’s been a fantastic colleague and leader, and his forward thinking has helped make Sandburg one of the most technologically advanced community colleges in the country. We know he’ll continue to do great things, and we appreciate his service toward Carl Sandburg College.”
