GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team dropped its Arrowhead Conference opener 75-41 to Kishwaukee on Tuesday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
Sandburg (5-7, 0-1), which had a three-game winning streak snapped, found itself down just 32-25 at halftime. A 10-2 burst gave Kishwaukee (12-6, 1-0) a 28-18 lead, but a layup by freshman forward Marysa Remick (ROWVA) and 3-pointer from sophomore guard Makenzie Frank (Knoxville) helped the Chargers trim the deficit before intermission.
The Kougars pulled away early in the second half, scoring 17 of the first 20 to open up a 49-28 lead with 13 minutes, 49 seconds to go.
Freshman forward Destini Bollinger (Astoria) scored six of her team-high eight points in the first half for the Chargers. Remick battled foul trouble throughout the contest and scored all seven of her points in the first half.
Valerierose Agnello led Kishwaukee with a game-high 27 points. Sinclair Cunningham added 18 and Tami Morice scored 13 for the Kougars.
The Chargers play their first Arrowhead road contest at 5 p.m. Thursday at Highland.
