PEORIA—The Carl Sandburg College men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their season Friday with the Bradley Intercollegiate at Detweiller Park.
The Chargers women’s team posted a ninth-place finish in the 13-team field. Sophomore Haley Bolliger (Tremont) led the way for Sandburg in the 3-mile race, placing 53rd in 19 minutes, 57 seconds. Freshman Marisa Miller (Galesburg) also posted a top-100 finish, placing 94th in 22:12. Other finishers for Sandburg were freshman Bayleigh Harrison (105th, 23:05), freshman Christina Kokjohn (107th, 23:07), sophomore Kenzie Payton (117th, 23:46), sophomore Abbie Billeter (124th, 24:21) and freshman Tessa Vowels (135th, 25:12).
Sandburg finished 11th in the team standings of the men’s 4-mile race. Freshman Rimirez Black (Rockridge) was the Chargers’ top finisher at 79th in 23:08, and freshman Johnathan Peterson (Galesburg) followed in 97th in 24:03. Other finishers for the Chargers were sophomore Jeff Hilgenberg (103rd, 24:17), freshman David Kantor (117th, 24:56), freshman Jacob Wolf (130th, 26:15), freshman William Palmer (134th, 26:15) and freshman Tyler Schuermann (136th, 27:01).
Sandburg’s next meet is the Illinois Intercollegiate hosted by Olivet Nazarene on Sept. 13 at Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais. The women’s race will go off at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s race at 5:45 p.m.
