BOURBONNAIS—The Carl Sandburg College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Illinois Intercollegiate on Friday at Aspen Ridge Golf Course.
Sandburg’s women’s team finished 13th with 403 points and was led by sophomore Haley Bolliger (Tremont), who took 64th in 20 minutes, 20 seconds in the 5-kilometer race. The Chargers’ next three finishers crossed the line within 10 seconds of each other. Freshman Christina Kokjohn (Clinton Prince of Peace) was 135th at 23:37, sophomore Kenzie Payton (Galesburg) was 136th in 23:40 and freshman Bayleigh Harrison (Knoxville) placed 141st in 23:46.
Other finishers for Sandburg were freshman Marisa Miller (Galesburg) in 143rd at 24:06, sophomore Abbie Billeter (Galesburg) in 150th at 24:36 and freshman Tessa Vowels (St. Joseph-Ogden) at 152nd in 24:46.
Freshman Rimirez Black (Rockridge) led Sandburg in the men’s 8K race by finishing 118th in 28:26 as the Chargers finished 18th as a team. Sophomore Jeff Hilgenberg (Knoxville) was 158th in 30:32, freshman Jonathan Peterson (Galesburg) was 162nd in 30:50 and freshman David Kantor (Mercer County) was right behind in 163rd in 31:03. Freshman Tyler Schuermann (ROWVA) crossed the finish line at 32:00 for 174th, while freshman William Palmer (VIT) was 180th in 33:11 and freshman Jacob Wolf (Galesburg) was 183rd in 33:54.
The University of Chicago and Lewis tied for first in the women’s race team standings with 48 points. Host Olivet Nazarene took the men’s team title with 52 points.
Sandburg’s next race is the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana on Sept. 27 at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island. The women’s race will start at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s race at 5:45 p.m.
