GALESBURG—Sophomore guard Seth Wickert (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) matched his season high with 25 points as the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team knocked off No. 4 South Suburban 80-74 on Saturday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
The Chargers (19-9) also got 17 points from freshman guard Juwan Hubbard (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) and 11 points from freshman forward Aaron Powers (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier). Sandburg led 33-31 at halftime against the Bulldogs (25-3), who had a 10-game winning streak snapped.
“What a great team win today,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “I am very happy for our guys. They have done a great job of representing our program and our college all season. We need to keep our focus after a great win today and finish our last two conference games on a strong note. We need to keep playing well as the tournament approaches.”
Sandburg returns to Arrowhead Conference play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday as it hosts Black Hawk on Sophomore Night. The Chargers close the regular season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Kishwaukee.
