Answer questions about your experience

In order to receive a music scholarship, you must complete an on-campus audition. Your audition should include two pieces in contrasting styles.  Memorization is preferred, but not required.  Please schedule an audition with James Hutchings at (309) 341-5317 or jhutchings@sandburg.edu. As there are a limited number of talent scholarships, you are encouraged to apply and audition as early as possible.

You should bring two letters of recommendation to your audition; one should be from a private instructor or ensemble director.

  • All recipients of scholarships are to make application for financial aid prior to their planned term of enrollment.
  • The scholarship is awarded for the fall and spring semesters of the academic year. Failure to meet requirement during the Fall Semester will result in loss of the scholarship for the Spring Semester.
  • Student must enroll full time (12 credit hours) and maintain at least a 2.0 “C” average in order to maintain eligibility for the funds. If the student drops below these levels within the semester the grant will be cancelled for the following semester and may be required to repay funds already awarded for the current semester.
  • Student is required to participate in two ensembles, one of which must be the Sandburg Choir. Other ensemble options include Sandburg Chamber Choir, Galesburg Community Chorus, and Sandburg Jazz Ensemble.  All enrollments, exceptions, and substitutions must be discussed with and approved by the Music Coordinator.
  • Scholarship Recipients will be required to contribute to music department activities and tasks, up to 5 hours per week outside of ensembles.
  • Student is required to help as needed with music department activities.
