Connect with Sandburg
Sandburg evaluates all requests for loans on a case by case basis as authorized under 34 CFR 685.301(a)(7) of the Higher Education Act. Federal regulations allow an institution to refuse to certify a student loan or certify a loan amount that is less than the student’s determination of need. Students will be notified in writing of the Committee’s decision. Sandburg’s Financial Aid Appeals Committee evaluates all requests for loans to determine if borrowing is prudent. Items considered include but are not limited to: debt the student has from past educational loans, progress toward program completion, the current educational debt versus potential future earnings, and/or a review of previous educational records where available.
• Students who have not earned 12 credit hours with a 2.0 GPA at Sandburg may submit high school and/or non-Sandburg college transcripts to support their loan request. Unofficial transcripts may be sent directly to the Financial Aid Office for this purpose.
• The Department of Education will subtract .0.5% in fees from the amount requested.

*Your loan will be processed as either subsidized or unsubsidized depending upon your financial aid eligibility. Sandburg will always consider you for subsidized loan funds first. If you are not eligible for subsidized funds and are still in need of Direct Loan funding would you be willing to accept any or your entire loan in unsubsidized funds?
