Starting this fall semester, Carl Sandburg College students can fulfill all the requirements for their Associate in Arts degree solely through online courses. In total, more than 50 classes that meet the degree requirements for completion of an Associate in Arts can be taken online through Sandburg.

Sandburg also belongs to the Illinois Community Colleges Online (ILCCO) consortium. This program allows students to enroll in online courses at other Illinois community colleges while maintaining their Sandburg enrollment status. Students will participate in another college’s online course, but will receive billing, financial aid and transcripts from Sandburg.

Online students also can take advantage of the same services available to those who attend classes in person at Sandburg, such as advising, free tutoring (including 24/7 online tutoring) and technical support as well as free admission to campus events.

For some, the flexibility of online work gives students an opportunity to take classes and now pursue a degree that their schedule would otherwise not allow. Students no longer need to plan their lives around the dates and times their class meets. They can participate in the class and complete the required coursework at times that best fit their personal schedule. It also gives the College the ability to serve more students and provides more people the opportunity to enhance their education. With a greater presence in online learning, Sandburg’s campuses and classrooms extend farther than ever.
