Neve’s 79 Leads Sandburg Men’s Golf in Spring Season Opener

The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team opened its spring season with a second-place finish Tuesday afternoon in an Arrowhead Conference meet hosted by the Chargers at Lake Bracken Country Club.

Sandburg’s 325 total was second to Black Hawk, which had all four scorers shoot in the 70s en route to a 304 total.

Anthony Neve (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) paced Sandburg with an 8-over-par 79, and Ryan Hansen (Neponset, Ill./Kewanee) carded an 80. Freshman Nate Bizarri (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) shot 81 and sophomore Colin Price (Mason City, Ill./Illini Central) an 85 to round out the Chargers’ scoring.

Freshman Michael Curry (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) shot a 90, and sophomore Braxton Prather (Rushville, Ill./Rushville-Industry), competing as an individual, came in with an 83.

Jake Beck and Austin Jump, both of Black Hawk, posted 75s to share medalist honors.

Sandburg finished 16 shots ahead of third-place Illinois Valley, which totaled a 341. Highland was fourth with a 346.

The Arrowhead schedule continues with a meet hosted by Illinois Valley at 1:30 p.m. April 18 at Senica’s Oak Ridge in LaSalle.
