Sandburg Women’s Golf Kicks Off Spring Schedule

The Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team opened its spring season with a back-to-back tournaments Friday and Saturday. The Chargers shot 392 on Friday at Gibson Woods in the Fighting Scot Spring Invite and shaved three strokes off their score with a 389 in Saturday’s Knox Spring Invite at Soangetaha Country Club.

Sophomore Morgan Newton (Erie, Ill./Erie) paced the Chargers Friday with a 94, good for eighth overall. Jenna Heck (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) was ninth with a 97. Carrie Raders (Lena, Ill./Lena-Winslow) came in with a 99, and Callie Raders (Lena, Ill./Lena-Winslow) posted a 102. The Chargers’ 392 total was good for third among teams.

Sandburg took third again on Saturday, with Callie Raders leading the way with a 95. All three other Chargers came in at 98 for the round.

Sandburg’s next competition is the Clarke Invite at 10:30 a.m. April 22 at Eagle Ridge’s North Course in Galena.
