Carl Sandburg College men’s golfer Ryan Hansen (Neponset, Ill./Kewanee) rebounded from a difficult opening nine holes by playing the back end of his round at 2-over-par Friday in the final round of the NJCAA Division II national championship at Longbow Golf Club.

Hansen, who started his round on the 10th hole, had his 12-over 83 highlighted by a 37 on the course’s front nine. The Chargers freshman totaled a 319 (78-74-84-83) for the tournament, putting him 84th in the 137-player field. Hansen placed 16th among the 33 golfers who qualified for nationals as individuals.

Hansen drained 12 pars Friday — including seven over the final eight holes — to bring his total for the tournament to 46, tied for 10th most among all players.

Host school Mesa (Ariz.) had three golfers finish in the top six and shot 1,155 as a team for the tournament to win the national championship by five shots over Mississippi Gulf Coast. Mississippi Gulf Coast’s Colin Troxler finished at 2 under for the week to win by the individual title by four strokes.
