Carl Sandburg College men’s golfer Ryan Hansen (Neponset, Ill./Kewanee) shot a 3-over-par 74 Wednesday during the second round of the NJCAA Division II national championship at Longbow Golf Club, shaving four shots off his score from the first round.
The Chargers freshman opened with a 1-under 36 on the front, including a birdie on the par-4 eighth. Hansen then ran off six straight pars and a birdie on No. 15, pulling him even for the day, before running into trouble on the final three holes. He double-bogeyed the par-3 16th and bogeyed the par-4 17th but avoided further damage when he scrambled for par on the 18thafter taking a penalty. Hansen played holes 5-14 at 2 under par without a bogey.
Hansen’s 152 total is 11 over par midway through the 72-hole tournament. Players were still on the course for the second round at the time of this posting. The tournament continues with the third round Thursday before concluding Friday.
