The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team posted its lowest round of the Arrowhead Conference season and finished second in a league meet Wednesday at Byron Hills.
The Chargers’ 324 total was one stroke better than their score April 11 on their home course at Lake Bracken. Ryan Hansen’s (Neponset, Ill./Kewanee) 7-over-par 71 led Sandburg, which finished seven shots ahead of third-place Illinois Valley. Host Black Hawk won with a 297 — the best score of any team during the season — to clinch the conference championship.
Braxton Prather (Rushville, Ill./Rushville-Industry) and Nate Bizarri (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) each carded an 81, and Michael Curry (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) had an 84 to round out the Chargers’ score.
Anthony Neve (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) had an 87, and Colin Price (Mason City, Ill./Illini Central) added an 85 for Sandburg as individuals.
The Chargers are second in the conference standings with 15 points, three ahead of Illinois Valley. The Arrowhead schedule concludes with a meet hosted by Sauk Valley at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Emerald Hills.
