Registration Available for Sandburg Summer Sports Camps

Aspiring young athletes can get first-hand instruction from Carl Sandburg College coaches and players this summer at sports camps for softball, golf, cross country, basketball, volleyball and soccer.

Campers will learn the fundamentals of their sport(s), with an emphasis on having fun. Each camp will be led by Chargers coaches, who have decades of experience at the collegiate level, and current Sandburg athletes will assist with individual instruction.

Details for each sport’s camp are as follows:

SOFTBALL
Takes place May 31-June 2 at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex. Times are 8:30-11:30 a.m. for 14- to 18-year-olds, 1:30-3:30 p.m. for 11- to 13-year-olds and 12:30-2 p.m. for 8- to 10-year-olds. Led coach Chargers coach Todd Winkler and members of the Sandburg softball team. Registration deadline is May 19. Cost is $40 and includes a T-shirt.

GOLF
Takes place from 8:30 a.m.-noon June 5-6 at Lake Bracken Country Club. Open for students who have completed grades 4-8. Led by Chargers men’s golf coach Ryan Twaddle, Chargers women’s golf coach Mike Bailey and Lake Bracken golf staff. Registration deadline is May 24. Cost is $30 and includes a T-shirt.

CROSS COUNTRY
Takes place from 5-6 p.m. June 5-9 on Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg. Open for students who have completed grades K-8. Led by Chargers coach Rodney Blue and members of the Sandburg men’s and women’s cross country teams. Registration deadline is May 24. Cost is $40 and includes a T-shirt.

BASKETBALL
Takes place from 9 a.m.-noon June 19-23 in John M. Lewis Gymnasium. Open for students who have completed grades 4-9. Led by Chargers coach Mike Bailey and Sandburg men’s and women’s basketball players. Registration deadline is June 7. Cost is $50 and includes a T-shirt.

VOLLEYBALL
Takes place June 26-29 in John M. Lewis Gymnasium. Times are 10 a.m.-noon for 11- to 13-year-olds and 1-3 p.m. for 14- to 18-year-olds. Led by Chargers coach Todd Winkler and members of the Sandburg volleyball team. Registration deadline is June 14. Cost is $40 and includes a T-shirt.

SOCCER
Takes place from 9 a.m.-noon Aug. 7-11 at the Knox County YMCA soccer complex. Open for students who have completed grades 4-9. Led by Chargers men’s soccer coach Kevin Mahlan and Chargers men’s soccer players. Registration deadline is July 26. Cost is $50 and includes a T-shirt.
