Galesburg, IL

Carl Sandburg College and Lincoln College on Thursday announced an articulation agreement that simplifies the transfer process for Sandburg students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degree at Lincoln College.

Under the agreement, Sandburg graduates with an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) will have met all general education requirements for Lincoln College-Normal. Also, Sandburg graduates with an AA, AS or Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree who meet the requirements for Lincoln’s Accelerated Bridge to Education (ABE) program (at least 23 years old and a minimum of three years’ post-high school full-time employment) will be automatically admitted to Lincoln.

Lincoln also will transfer in all credits from a Sandburg AAS degree for graduates who enroll in one of Lincoln’s AAS Capstone Degree programs (Bachelor of Applied Management in Entrepreneurship or Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership).

Additionally, the agreement allows students who move on from Sandburg to Lincoln before completing their degree the opportunity to obtain an associate degree from Sandburg through the reverse transfer process.

“Our whole purpose in these partnerships is to ensure our students have the end in my mind when they start here with us,” Sandburg President Dr. Lori Sundberg said. “We want a smooth transition for them, for it to go seamlessly. The Accelerated Bridge to Education is probably the program our students are most likely to participate in, but there are other great options available for them at Lincoln once they graduate from Sandburg.”

"We are very pleased to have Carl Sandburg as a partner, as we continue to expand our ABE program at ICC’s North Campus in Peoria. We have found that the Accelerated Bridge to Education program is often exactly what working adults are looking for in their educational opportunities,” Lincoln College President David Gerlach said. “It has been shown that students are more successful in obtaining their bachelor’s degree when it is delivered in a concentrated manner and we are confident this will be an excellent option for many Carl Sandburg students.”

This is the latest formal agreement Sandburg has made with a four-year college or university to help graduates easily transfer so they can obtain a bachelor’s degree. Sandburg also has partnerships in place with Bellevue University, Franklin University, Illinois College, Illinois State University, Knox College, Monmouth College, St. Ambrose University, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Illinois at Springfield and Western Illinois University.

Sandburg serves nearly 3,000 students throughout west-central Illinois, offers more than 50 university transfer, associate in applied science, certificate and advanced certificate programs, and it was recently named the top community college its size in the country for digital technology.

Lincoln College is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian college of approximately 1,000 students. Its main campus is in Lincoln, Illinois, while a campus in Normal houses its Accelerated Bridge to Education (ABE) program. ABE programs are also offered in Peoria and Oglesby. The college offers both bachelor’s and associate’s degree programs. For more information about Lincoln College, visit www.lincolncollege.edu.
