Dr. Ellen Crowe, Carl Sandburg College’s new Vice President of Academic Services, brings with her more than 30 years of experience in education and nearly two decades as a higher education administrator.

Crowe’s hiring was made official at the College’s Board of Trustees meeting in June. She will take over for current Vice President of Academic Services Julie Gibb, who announced in January that she will retire at the end of 2017 after 31 years at Sandburg. Crowe will begin her position at the College on Aug. 16 with Gibb is still in her current role, allowing Crowe an opportunity to familiarize herself with Sandburg faculty, programs and curricula throughout the fall semester.

“Dr. Crowe has a wealth of experience as an educator and administrator, and she’ll be an excellent fit for Carl Sandburg College as we continue to provide great academic options for our students,” Sandburg President Dr. Lori Sundberg said. “The opportunity for Dr. Crowe to work alongside Julie Gibb during her first few months here will be an invaluable experience for her and will help ensure a smooth transition.”

Crowe comes to Sandburg from Morton College in Cicero, where she had been dean of career and technical education and continuing education for the last three years. Prior to her position at Morton, Crowe was dean of Campus at Westwood College in Chicago. She also has had positions at Quincy University, MacMurray College and the Special School District of St. Louis County.

Overall, Crowe has 17 years of teaching experience at community colleges and universities as well as 18 years of experience in higher education administration.

“It is an honor and privilege to join the Carl Sandburg team. Sandburg is known as a leader in its innovative approaches and as an institution focused not only on the success of its students but every part of its community,” Crowe said. “From the minute you step onto the campus you can sense the dedication of the faculty and staff. I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Sundberg. Her leadership and experience demonstrates her passion and dedication to higher education and, in particular, the college experience. Working with her, I hope to continue the excellent work Julie Gibb has done and build upon the great foundation Dr. Sundberg and her team have created.”
