Brayden Reece (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) shot a 1-over-par 72 and the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team posted its lowest round of the season Friday at the Duane Chanay Invite.

Reece, competing as an individual, shot 72 for his best round of the fall. The Chargers got rounds of 75 from Michael Curry (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA), Brady Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion), Bryce Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) and Anthony Neve (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) for an even 300 team total, beating their previous season best by 13 shots.

Neve’s round included a 1-under 34 on the front, while Brady Grafton extended his string of rounds in the 70s to a perfect five for five. The 75s were season lows for Curry, Never, and Brady Grafton. Bryce Grafton is now the only Charger to have had his score count for each round this season.

Sandburg’s 300 was good for fifth, one stroke behind Illinois Central. Host Black Hawk’s two teams swept the top two spots, shooting 290 and 295. Southwest (Wis.) Tech (296) was third and Monmouth (298) fourth.

Ryan Hansen (Neponset, Ill./Kewanee) carded a 79 that didn’t go toward Sandburg’s score. Joining Reece as individuals for the Chargers were Nate Bizarri (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) with an 80 and Andrew Welgat (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) with an 87.

In a scheduling change, the Skyhawk Classic scheduled for Friday afternoon has been canceled. The Chargers’ next tournament is the Timber Creek Classic at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Timber Creek in Dixon.
