After winning a five-set thriller against Lincoln earlier this season, the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team ended up on the short of one in a rematch with the Lynx on Thursday in a 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 20-25, 15-13 loss.

Playing in her hometown, freshman Josalyn Owens (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln) led the Chargers (16-9) with 16 kills. Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) added 10 kills, while Lexi Strange (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) and Hannah Thompson (Blandinsville, Ill./West Prairie) each had seven.

Thompson also recorded a team-high 32 digs for the Chargers, and libero Adre Vetter (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) picked up 27.

Emma Derry (Augusta, Ill./Southeastern) had 26 assists for Sandburg, and fellow sophomore setter Camerin Huizenga (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) handed out 15. Derry also served four of the Chargers’ nine aces on the night.

Sam Mayberry (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) posted a season-best five solo blocks to lead Sandburg.

The Chargers, who took the final two sets in a five-set victory at home against Lincoln on Sept. 25, saw their three-match win streak snapped.

Sandburg will have the weekend off before taking on Arrowhead Conference rival Black Hawk at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Moline.
