The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team was unable to get much going offensively in a 3-0 Region IV loss to Waubonsee on a breezy Saturday afternoon at Galesburg High School’s Van Dyke Field.
The Chargers (6-10-1 overall, 6-5-1 Region IV) were limited to just one shot on goal in the contest, their second in as many days.
The Chiefs (12-4, 8-3) took a 1-0 lead into halftime and got their first two goals from Reuel Erastus-Obilo. In the 13th minute, Erastus-Obilo worked one-on-one in the middle of the box, dribbled to his right and hit a shot inside the far post.
Sandburg’s best scoring opportunity of the match came in the 27th minute as Sam Walton (Monkseaton, England/Monkseaton) sent a cross to Mike Pavon (Galveston, Texas/Willis), whose header clanged off the far post. Pavon finished with four of the Chargers’ seven shot attempts and their only shot on net.
Erastus-Obilo extended Waubonsee’s lead in the 60th minute with a goal virtually identical to his first, and the Chiefs’ Jose Munoz capped the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 69th minute.
Sandburg keeper George Mutimer (Colchester, England/Colchester) saved six of Waubonsee’s nine shots on goal.
The Chargers will play their final home contest of the regular season at 1 p.m. Oct. 14 against Oakton at the Knox County YMCA's Kleine Field.
